Back to the tunnels today. We had a new one coming in to the Underground, one of Dox’s bunch. History says there is no love lost between their kind and ours but Lavi spoke highly of her and I trust her judgment to the end. Besides, I have seen what they can do and I sure as hell want her on our side when, as Laz was so fond of saying, the excrement hits the oscillator. After meeting Dusty, I have to agree with Lavi. Good head on her shoulders, and not too inclined to spook easily or run her mouth much. Given the state of things in town, that will serve us all well. She seemed a little unsure about me but she is new to town and just has not had time to appreciate me as yet. That will change in time, I am sure…

Dropped in to the Circus today. Same old, same old, Larson never changes. Something made me check the tent where the acrobats practice – wishful thinking I suppose – and seems my spider sense was right on. There she was, dangling upside down from a rope about thirty feet up. Same Tsaya…..T. Breathtaking as always. It’s been several years since she and I crossed paths, not by my choice but more like the typical wanderings of our clan. God it’s good to see her face again after so long. I feel teh same surge in my heart that she always seems to stir, and with it the same pang of regret that I always seem to be zigging when she is zagging, the regret that she still sees me as a source of good advice, a bit of fun, a harmless flirtation. It’s been that way for half a century now, but fate has once again dropped her in my path. Maybe this time…

Double checked the last tunnel today. Lavi’s been damn near compulsive over it and I don’t blame her. We started at the hole under the shop, working our way across towards the outer limit. Lazarus began under the Market and eventually met up with us just at the edge where the dead end illusion gives on to the Trails. Dox’s bunch will take it from there, but all seems in fine shape. Things have been quiet of late but that never seems to ease her mind…

Out of the locked drawer, hidden in the back of a prop cabinet in true magician style, the old leather-bound journal was retrieved. Louie carried it almost reverently as he sat down at the desk in his back office, then began to turn the pages slowly, skimming the words left there in his own spidery scrawl. The pages started with a date in 1945, the year he finally saw his name in lights at The Oasis, ColeValley’s first casino. Tucked in the pages is a napkin with a note written in faded green ink and the sight of it brings a sad smile to his face as he passes on through the pages of his history, the image of Macayla – his sire – flashing through his thoughts. His aim tonight is more recent – just over a year ago. One name jumps out of the pages at him…Laveine…Lavi.

This is nothing unusual as her name is scattered across just about every page of his life, but it was this year that things took a turn, a turn that saw him rise and fall and rise once more. Secrets…it was always about secrets….

Prologue

This is a work of fiction, a journal based on the in-character unlife and events surrounding Downtown Louie, a vampire character in a role-playing game. This page, Come Sundown, is the current year. I am slowly adding the previous year on the All Good Things page.
